General
K-9 Athletes is an Agility Training School offering instruction in Dog Agility from beginners through competition level classes. Our training staff is dedicated to helping our students reach their highest potential in agility, be it in competition or just spending time with their canine friends and having fun. Classes are offered as private or in a group session. Students are taught such that they may compete under the rules and regulations of the United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA), American Kennel Club (AKC), Canine Performance Events (CPE) or the North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC). Our staff consists of top winning agility trainers/competitors.
Beginners
Our beginners program is designed to introduce you and the dog to each individual obstacle with emphasis on fun and safety. Your dog will be taught to perform the obstacle safely, confidently and correctly. Most work will be performed on-lead and no previous agility experience is required. Dogs may be taken off-lead or worked on a tab for a short easy sequence, therefor basic obedience is requested. It's hard to train a dog that is on the other side of the training ring.
(1 hour class)
Intermediate
Our intermediate program will introduce the agility team to distance work on the obstacles as well as learning a smooth sequence from one obstacle to the next. You will learn to give timely commands, provide consistent and smooth body cues and develop teamwork with your dogs. You will also develop different methods to smoothly switch sides with your dogs during a handling sequence. On the last night of class, students will run a simple course to put together everything they have learned with this session.
(1 hour class)
Advanced/Trialing
Our advanced/trialing program is designed for the agility teams in competition or teams that will be competing in the near future. Longer and increasing complex sequences will be presented. Students gain experience by running courses based on standard classes, jumpers, snookers and more. You will develop the ability to formulate handling strategies, and handling options are discussed. This class is designed to concentrate on honing you and the dog's performance in a wide variety of sequences and situations. Handling strategies will be frequently revisited. Agility rules and regulations of all organizations will also be discussed and tested on. Admission to this class is by permission only and on a space available basis.
(1½ hour class)
Private
Our private lessons will be developed to meet your immediate and future needs. Please contact K-9 Athletes Training Staff for further information about a private lesson for you and your dog.
